Apple strudel

I had a lot of apples at home and decided to make an apple strudel. This is my first and it was interesting. I peeled and sliced a few apples, threw in some sugar, a bit of rum, raisins, walnuts and spices. That was easy and the dough was not so easy. I rolled it out using some parchment paper. I did this to avoid a sticky mess and it worked out pretty well. I wanted it to be thin and flaky but didn't quite roll it thin enough. It came out almost like pie crust. Maybe next time around? Next I just dropped the filling on the dough, rolled it up and popped it in the oven.

Waited and watched through the glass.

The taste of the filling was so good but the crust needs a bit of work.

Bread & little fingers

This loaf turned out a lot better than the last one I posted. Did you know you can kill your yeast if your warm water is too warm? I learned this one the hard way. It really helps to have a thermometer in your kitchen. I guessed correctly with this loaf though. A bit lighter than my last loaf and not salty either. Success! I also love the curious little fingers creeping into the photo.

turn on the oven

It's been below freezing and doesn't look like it's thawing out anytime soon. I've been baking french bread to keep warm. Look for more bread to come soon.
